WiP Wednesday: The One with Triangles and Brits

A quick check in on a little progress. First - Triangles! I am working along on the Triangle QAL hosted by The Sassy Quilter. I am behind but determined to keep at it!

The Triangles made it to he design wall and I have started piecing the rows. Paula's tutorials are very good and I am stoked that I am keeping my points! No Bliangles here folks!

The other project on the agenda this week was another Union Jack Pillow. I have sold two of these puppies, and mine makes three. Good news, still enjoying making them :)

I love seeing the difference that fabric can make. This version has a very cherry red, it looks so crisp in comparison to the muted colors of my original version. One looks vintage while the other looks more graphic. Love them both!

What are you working on this week? Me, I best get back to those Triangles!

Linking up with Lee at Freshly Pieced and The Needle & Thread Network.

The Library Project QAL: April Report

Confession time. My Library grew since the last time we checked in on TLP! After having the opportunity to touch and feel some books at our MMQG Sew In, I hit the on-line stores and picked up these beauties

It was great to be able to look at the books before deciding to buy. Plus some of the projects from your TLPs are in these puppies and I have been thinking about them!

But what about the sewing you ask? Well after last month's big finish on Summer Tracks, I have been working on Volume. This one is time consuming. True story. After two solid sessions I have three of the eight colors ready to go.

It may take some time, but because of that I am going to treasure this one when it is done.

In another twist, I am participating in the MQG Michael Miller Fabric Challenge. We received six fat eights of Petal Pinwheels to quilt something.

I must tell you that this whole thing has been kind of stressing me out. I have never created an original quilt design and the kinds of things that win these contests are original designs. But then tonight, as I was composing this post in my head, I thought about my picks for TLP. You know what I could use the Michael Miller Fabrics for? For this...

Yup! Gonna use my challenge fabric for my improv piece. Sometimes I am a genius - two birds and all that again :)

So how is your month been, get lots done, a little done? Tell us all about it!  Just hook up your post in the linky below and you will be entered into this months draw. The Prize...

Chicopee Plus Pillow: A Finish

I almost forgot to tell you about the pillow I made last week!

I was working on cutting my triangles for the Triangle QAL. Once they were cut I was being faithful to busting my scraps and ended up with a bunch of 2 1/2" squares.

This Denyse Schmidt fabric is so great I wanted to keep doing something with it. And then I remembered that I wanted to make a gift, so I layed out those squares and ended up with a Plus Pillow.

The pillow was gifted to Sarah at the April meeting of the MMQG. Sarah was a guest speaker who enlightened us to the opportunities around Social Media. Did you know that e-mail is becoming obsolete and that most people use You Tube as their main search engine? Who knew!!

When Sarah and I were planning to have her come to the meeting I knew that I wanted to give her something for coming. Our Guild has no money to speak of yet, but I was also thinking that as a Guild we are ultimately Makers. So I made her something. I think she was OK with it :)

Have you made any handmade gifts lately? Would love to hear about them!
Thanks for dropping in.

Giant Star: A Finish

I am so happy to share a finish! Here is my Giant Star...

I can report that I have nothing negative to say about the quilting on this one. What a refreshing change huh?! I ended up taking the top apart into quarters and then straight lined QYAG. The results - awesome!

It was hard to find a good place to take a picture, this winter just goes on and on. But This little green park building does the trick.

On the back was a special treat, a sheet I got at a yard sale. I love the black and white large scale flowers and the sheet gives the whole quilt a little added weight.

I have another giant star hanging in the UFO closet. But now I know how to quilt the sucker!
This quilt is my April Goal for A Lovely Year of Finishes so I will be linking up there when the times comes and it's Anything Goes Monday at Stitch by Stitch in just a couple of hours, so linking up there too!
Any finishes coming up for you?
I hope you get lots of sewing time this week!

Two Birds & All That

This is me, killing two birds with one stone, or one post in this case.

First up - Triangles! So there is a reason why I usually don't sign up for Quilt Alongs. Because I can never keep up! I am already a week, and very soon to be two weeks behind with the Triangle QAL being hosted by The Sassy Quilter. But that does not mean that I am giving up! This week I took the fabric on a work road trip so that I could at least get it pressed and starched. This is my first time using starch. I suspect I did not use enough, but time will tell...

Then last night I got the triangles cut. You can use an equilateral triangle or the 60 degree lines on your regular 6 x 24 ruler to cut your triangles. Not wanting to invest in another ruler, I chose my regular ruler and it worked like a charm!

Penny Photo bomb

Next step is to lay them out in rows and sew the rows together. I suspect that will be another week away for me. But in the mean time I like looking at this stack. Makes me happy.

Next up - my April goal for A Lovely Year of Finishes.

A few months ago I needed a quick fix and put together two Giant Star Quilt tops based on Jeni Baker's tutorial.

Time to get those babies quilted! Well one of them anyway. My first dilemma was how to quilt it. Wanting to be kind to myself I decided to take the top apart into four quarters so that I could do some QAYG.

Check out these straight lines!

The goal - to get this quilt finished!

To sum up - I am terrible at QAL deadlines, my kitty is a photo bomber, triangles stacked in a pile are just as good as those stretched out on a design wall, I want to QAYG everything and I am kicking ass at straight line quilting right now!

Off I go to link up with The Triangle QAL and A Lovely Year of Finishes.

I hope you have a great sewing week!
