Charming Lush Uptown

I have been having a great sew-y week! I tackled this pile of Lush Uptown

and made a Charm Pack Cherry Quilt (from Fat Quarter Shop) top.

I really like this pattern. A modern twist on a traditional nine-patch, it is simple to pull together. I ended up making twice the blocks called for in the recipe so that I could have a bigger top.

I took this project to camp with me this week. My dreams of a Feather Weight continue as I lug machine et al to locations other than my sewing room. I used a little child labour to help count out the squares (nephews are good to have around).

I added Kona Seafoam to the prints. I am not sure I am completely sold on the color, I feel like I want something with more punch, but it does give the whole top a soft earthy feel which is also good. Maybe I will get wild with the back or the binding...

You may notice that this top is not all quite together, and that's because I have decided to QYAG, so I will attached blocks and rows as I go. This baby is just a little too big for an all over quilt job.

Getting this top done was my July Goal for ALYOF - Yay Me! and since I will continue to work on it this week, it gets WiP Wednesday action too at Freshly Pieced and Needle & Thread Network!

What are you working on this week? Tell me all the gory details!
Thanks for stopping in

  1. Ack.. another pattern that I have pinned on Pinterest. How will I ever make all the things I have pinned? I think the Seafoam lets the other fabrics pop... that paint chip print is too good. I would have been tempted to use Snow... but that's just me being unimaginative! :) What am I up to this week? Well, you'll have to wait for tomorrow to see... some big decisions got made and there's progress on something that's been hanging over my head! Oh, the suspense!

  3. mmm mmm good! This fabric really lends itself to that pattern. I have made it twice, but love yours. Perhaps I will bust open my fat quarter stack of Lush Uptown and make one??

  4. I love your Charm Pack Cherry Quilt. I actually printed out that pattern about two weeks ago to go on my "to do" clipboard. The fabrics and seafoam are awesome together!!!

  7. I love the pop of colour. I think it would look amazing with a fun backing or binding. Go for it!

  8. I forgot to ask if you rent your "nephew" out to other quilters.

  9. A very fine quilt and your choice of fabrics works quite nicely! Youmust be a special auntie to get your nephew working on a sewing project, even if it is counting squares!

  10. `I am in love with your new project! I think the seafoam is perfect! Can't wait to see it in person. That pattern is on my list too. Nephews are awesome. I have six amazing nephews. I also have two featherweights. Maybe I will bring one to Sew-In some time. Featherweight that is, not a nephew!

  11. I love the pattern and the fact that is uses a different take on the D9P. Beautiful quilt. I've been trying to finish up my monkey quilt for an order, finished the quilting last night and only have the binding left to do :) Then I may do a small project to get something off my TLP list.

  12. Great quilt. You never know about a "new" color. I think the sea foam is a nice touch. I assume that is your beer and not your nephew's.
