Learning How to Quilt

I have been having fun lately answering question about how to quilt. I am always so excited to talk fabric, cutting mats, patterns, every delicious little bit. So much so that I can sometimes run on at the mouth (stop rolling your eyes people who know me). So I got to thinking about how I can help folks who just plain want to get started, learn the basics of quilting.

At first I was all like "I should do a series of tutorials". And then I saw this...a series called Your First Quilt by Sarah at Sarah Quilts.

The series, full of simple instructions with lots of photos has Six tutorials:
  • Tutorial 1 – Introduction & supplies
  • Tutorial 2 – Starching & cutting
  • Tutorial 3 – Piecing & pressing
  • Tutorial 4 – Backing & basting
  • Tutorial 5 –  Quilting
  • Tutorial 6 – Binding

I think this series is really great and have referred folks to the whole series or it's various parts. If you or someone you know is looking for the basics, this is a great place to start.

I also saw around the blogging community this week a Beginner's Quilt-Along at Stitched in Color. I think this would make a great intro to quilting project.

Maybe someday I will make my own beginner tutorials, but hey, why reinvent the wheel! I would rather show you great things I have found. Mind you, if there is anyone local who wants some face to face time and can stand my incessant talking, I would be glad to talk quilting anytime!

  1. Thanks so much Adrienne! I love that you're exciting about making new quilters too. Sometimes a face-to-face is so helpful, even if it's just for encouragement and inspiration.
