Blogathon Canada!

I am very excited to tell you about Blogathon Canada which will be happening November 18-23.

Blogathon Canada is a week-long celebration of Canadian Quilting Bloggers brought to you by Sew Sisters Quilt Shop. In its second year, Blogathon Canada celebrates the tremendous craft, talent, and passion of the online quilting community in Canada.

Here's How it Works
Each day host bloggers will introduce themselves and their work on their blogs. They will include links to more blogs from their province so you can visit those blogs as well. The host bloggers will also host a giveaway of some of their favorite goodies from Sew Sisters so you have a chance to win every day of the week! This year Sew Sisters has teamed up with Aurifil, Northcott and Robert Kaufman to bring you even more fantastic giveaways! Check out their blog for more and see how you can join the party!

I am pretty stoked to be a part of this amazing event. Check out the Scheule and get ready for some fun!

Hex Pop: A Finish

I could not resist one more finish this weekend! Don't worry, I suspect this streak of productivity may be coming to a screeching halt very soon...

Meet my Hex Pop Pillow. This is a special finish because it marks the very first check on my Library Project List.
The Library Project is a personal challenge to actually make something out of six of the books in my quilting library. You know, you buy the book (or a lot of books) and never make anything out of them? Well I am trying to change that in my little world.
So this first project is from Quilting On The Go. For this one, it was less about making an exact pattern out of the book, and more about learning the principles of English Paper Piecing and putting together an EPP kit so that I could always have an "on the go" project.

Well the kit is now established and I am hooked! There is going to be way more EPP in my future :)

The Hexies in this wee pillow are made from Flea Market Fancy from Denyse Schmidt and the outer border is Kona Papaya. A bold color, and exactly what I had envisioned.
Straight line quilting (of course) on this project in variegated thread! First time using "fun" thread, and I liked it! This little charmer is going to add some color to my studio until it finds a new home, for now I am going to enjoy the color, while I move on to the next book in the Library Project. What do you think I should do next?

This makes one final finish TGIFF OctoberQuest ! The linky party this week is over at Quilter In The Closet so off I go again :)

I hope you have a lovely sewing week and don't forget to check out the Blogger's Quilt Festival on the go right now, amazing inspiration everywhere!

Frames: A Finish

Look at me, another day, another finish! This improv-confection is from my Bee Mates at ModQImprov Bee. All I did was frame them up and snap them together.
Framing each block, made each like it's own work of art. To unify them I did random straight line quilting (using QAYG! yes, that's right, I am addicted).

The photo op was going to be epic today, it even involved a moose! But plans changed and I ended up with a rather grey sky and at Fisherman's Cove in Eastern Passage. It's a quaint little spot in the middle of the city, and did give me what I love the most, ocean.

For binding and backing, I used that second piece of Ikea duvet cover. Totally works!

This was a fun quilt to put together, and helped me to work on my fear of improv - yes, one of these blocks is mine :) I love the overall picture, and each individual part.

TGIFF OctoberQuest strikes again - helping me focus on getting through the "to do pile". The linky party this week is over at Quilter In The Closet so off I go!
Think I will get one more finish before OctoberQuest ends?..... stay tuned!

Bloggers Quilt Festival

Guess what time it is! It's Blogger's Quilt Festival time!

Amy's Creative Side puts on this amazing event and I am super excited to put forth my Beach Cabins Quilt for the Favorite Quilt Photographer Category.

I finished this lap-sized quilt this summer. You can read more about it here. This was a commission quilt where my client gave me two pieces of fabric (a blue and a red gingham) and said, "Make me something beachy". I used the Crooked Cabins Pattern from From The Blue Chair for this quilt, and it was EXACTLY what my client wanted :) Yay!

If you are a new visitor to my blog, or know me a wee bit, you will see that taking my finished quilting projects on a road trip and photo shoot is an absolute must and the final piece of my creative process. I love to take photos! and I try to find places that suit the quilt. Of course, for this one, I had to go to the beach! Off to the pictures...

When I take a quilt for it's photo shoot I like to take some pictures in a couple of different spots just for variety... in this case, this abandoned building foundation near the beach offered some green and a chance for some close ups.

I love this quilt, and it's pics! I wish it was still at my house, but I know it is happy in it's new home in Ottawa.

Thank you for visits and it would be great to have a vote thrown my way!
Oh, and I'd love to hear about your photo process :)

Improv Bizness

I got some time at the machine this weekend which was pretty sweet! Trying to get one more finish done this month... I worked on my Improv Quilt with blocks made by my Bee Mates at the ModQImprov Bee.

Following the plan from last weekend, I made one more block, to make an even twelve, and then framed them all up.

This was a fun process. As I framed each block, I really got to pay attention to all of the cool fabric that was in each one. Check out this cool face

Sock monkey on a pogo (still cool even headless)

Amazing flower power

and some nifty owls

Possibly the only thing more fun than all of this great fabric, is stitching them up with a fresh manicure!

I get 'emall framed up and on the design wall. They are perfect for Quilt As You Go no?

I will show you the results of my quilting when I am all finished up, but let's just say, I started thinking that I would finally do some free-motion quilting, but it wasn't long before the walking foot was back on :)

What I can say is good thing I have an order of Kona White on it's way because this is all I have left in the house of this staple. Less than a meter! Say it isn't so!

On the positive side - look what I got in the mail today...drool....

Well, I have a busy work week lined up, so likely not back to the sewing machine until the weekend. Until then, I think I will just stare at the Kona Card. It will be enough.

What are you up to this week?

Holy Crap What a Large Day: Wanna win something?

Can you say crap in a post title? I say yes, when it refers to a stupendous day! So what happened you ask? First, my Beach Cabins quilt was featured on Quilt Story. Thank you to Heather and Megan for putting me out there!

Then I got some lovin' from Bloglovin'  -  I have reached the 100 Follower Mark - in fact I have 101 followers!!!!

And then, yes there is more, I received an invitation to be one of the Host Bloggers for Blogathon Canada!  hosted by Sew Sisters. Stay tuned for details, there will be prizes people!

This wee blog has brought me so much joy, and it just keeps getting better! Whether folks read or not, I am excited every time I put fingers to keyboard to talk about my quilty adventures. If one person gets anything out of it - yahoo!!!

So, I am not very fancy, no sponsors or anything, but I just feel like celebrating, so I have dug into my own cupboards and have found a couple of things to give away! Two Denyse Schmidt Patterns.

Just leave a comment on this post and I will randomly draw a winner this time next week - October 24th at let's say midnight (that feels fun and dramatic!).

Thank you for reading, thank you for following, and thank you for helping me celebrate this large day.
